Classifications Explained - What does Division 3 mean?

In order to best understand the classification system, it is important to understand what kind of players each division is intended for, so a brief explanation follows.

Division 6

New players start as Beginners. Beginner is meant for players brand-new to competitive paintball and is designed to provide a low-pressure, fun experience.

Beginner is offered in the RaceTo-1 (3-man) format only.

Division 5

D5 marks the entry-level for serious tournament competition. All but extremely occasional or unsuccessful players should expect to stay in D5 for no more than a season.

Division 5 is likely to be offered in the RaceTo-1 (3-man) and RaceTo-2 (5-man) formats.

Division 4

D4 is the "collection" division for local and regional events. D4 players may be players who primarily play tournaments for fun but are no longer inexperienced enough to be D5, or may be newer, serious competitors on their way to D3. Many local and regional players who do not have ambitions for national competition may stay D4 forever, put players who consistently do well in D4 will move up to D3.

Division 4 is the entry level for timed, repeat-point formats, and will thus be offered in RaceTo-4 (X-Ball). D4 will also be offered in RaceTo-2 (5-man) and RaceTo-1 (3-man).

Division 3

D3 players are competitive regional-level players. While D4 players might not even practice, D3 players will tend to have a practice schedule, and will compete at the upper divisions of their regional league and perhaps even be regular participants at national-level events.

Division 3 is expected to be offered in the RaceTo-4 (X-Ball) and RaceTo-2 (5-man) formats.

Division 2

D2 players are the best players in any area of the country. They may be scattered among D3 Race2-2 teams or play a regional Race2-4 league, but also form the backbone of national-level D2 teams.

Division 2 will be offered in the RaceTo-5 (X-Ball) format.

Division 1 and Up

D1 and up players are serious national-level competitors - the top 400-500 players in North America.
